Give me a long lake! *SUPERIOR*

As I have mentioned about 100000 times.... ISU attended the regional residence hall conference, called GLACURH from November 13-15th. (GLACURH = Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls.) ISU brought 9 students and 2 advisors to Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasent, MI) for a weekend. We met up with students from all around Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ontario. It's always amazing to meet SO MANY people from all around the region to compare and learn. :D

ISU decided on a sub-theme of Star Wars... yeah!!! I love Star Wars!!! :) So we had all of our school stuff around that theme... our tag line was "Return of the Redbirds: Never Underestimate the Power of Leadership!" It was super cute. Our roll call (skit at the beginning of the conference), t-shirts, banner, and display all had this theme.

This was our banner. :) Shannon planned it all out: drew a templete, transfered to the fabric, and painted. We were on the same committee, and I did not really do a lot to help because let's admit it.... I am sooooo not artistic. But I did paint here and there. :)

This is a shot of our display. Both of these are important components for the conference... its a chance to showcase our school and be creative. :)

Other than that, our delegation had a BLAST during the conference. It was a little rough because of the time that Shannon, Robert, and I had to spend in the business room. We were three of the returner delegates, so it was a little hard to motivate and answer questions. Normally our communications coordinator sits in business the entire time while the rest of the delegation goes to programming sessions to learn from other students. Well, this time the three of us joined our communications coordinator because we had to do a presentation.

A presentation? Yeah... in front of all the communications coordinators from all around the region! Why did we have to give a presentation? Maybe I'll let you know in my next post. ;-)

The delegation at roll call, waiting for all the skits to start! Fear the Bird!

Bad blogger

Ok, ok ok... I know..

I am a bad, bad blogger... I am so far behind!

Lately I have been working hard with school, work, conference stuff, and just getting by! From the last entry, I attended the regional resiedence hall conference, turned in a 40 page weed id project, and prepared for Thanksgiving break! But I am currently on a week long break from school, so I am hoping to really catch up! I dont know where to start, I have so many pictures/stories! But....

I'm going to start with an entry about my floral design from 2 weeks ago. I never uploaded it!

Here is the original centerpiece that I came home with. I was not thrilled with having to put peppers in for a width component.. so I changed it up a bit...

And I totally removed them! Haha, but I did add some leatherleaf to the bottom border to fill it out a bit. I like it a little better :)

When I brought it home for break, I found some extra wire from my contemporary piece and added it in around the candle. I'll try to add a picture of that little addition later!

Bear with me as I add in many smaller entries!

Bouquet

Two weeks ago, we were given the task of creating a bouquets. Let's just say I had quite the hard time with it! I know where my work will be if I continue on with this field!

Here is a rather poor example of a small hand bouquet. :) I'm still working on those skills! It was fun to learn about it, but I am not very satisfied with the outcome!

School of the Year

I think I mentioned this at the beginning of my blog, but ARH won the NATIONAL School of the Year award this summer in Tucson Arizona. I was lucky enough to be chosen on the ISU delegation to represent ISU. It was a GREAT experience and I will never forget the feeling our delegation had when they called out our name.

Well, we didnt have the opportunity to properly celebrate with ISU and its administrators in May, so our advisors created a celebration for us in October. That way we could invite people to learn about it and understand what award we actually won.

It was a great get together - we were able to see old friends, teach new members, and celebrate with administrators. Here are a few pictures of the event. :)

There was a table set up with all of our awards from the State, Region, and Nation! We also got to show off some of our new promotionals and beautiful flowers!

The Vice President of Student Affairs came to speak and congratulate ARH on their achievement!

This is Ted, one of Shannon and my best friends we met through working in ARH!

Finally, a picture of the ARH executive board (with the cake!) at the event! What a great year it has been so far!
